What Locals Say
Based on 180+ Google reviews from neighbourhood regulars
"They have the best egg tarts in Toronto, south of Finch, and are almost always sold out by 10:30am."
There's a line up for their Bahn Mi starting around 11am. They are consistently friendly. Although there are a couple options for egg tarts in the area, both options do not compare to Tung Hing's incredibly buttery and flaky offerings.
"Pearl and her staff are always courteous, usually remember you by name and with enough repeat visits, will know your favorite sandwich."
A great local place to grab an affordable and tasty sandwich. Great, fresh ingredients, and prices that won't break the bank. A tasty and affordable way to get lunch and dine in a local park!
"Honestly, where else can you get a bun pastry for a buck?"
True definition of a local, budget-and-customer friendly bakery shop that is mindful of the working-class and senior pension earners of the community it serves. I applaud the lady who owns and runs the shop for keeping her prices down, even through the pandemic and skyrocketing inflation.
"Reminds me of when I was a kid and my grandma used to make them from scratch."
True homemade products, no shortcuts on ingredients. Their steamed buns are top quality: the dough is hand made per batch, and the filling is top notch. The Chinese bun business in Toronto can be hit or miss. These guys still doing it legit.
"The kid in front of me ordered 14 hot dog buns and I think that truly shows the quality of this place."
Super friendly staff and lots of great Chinese bun options! First time trying Pandan honeycomb cake and I am now obsessed. Will be getting it here every time I come back to this part of Toronto!
"One of last authentic Chinese bakeries still in Danforth East Toronto."
Durian cream cake for my sis' birthday was surprisingly light and creamy! Nice chefs. This Broadview Chinatown East location has been there over 40 years that I can remember, past 50 years.
Inside Tung Hing
Four decades of fresh-baked goods in East Chinatown. Every visit, the same warmth.

Our Story
For more than four decades, Tung Hing Bakery has been a fixture of Broadview Avenue and East Chinatown. What started as a small family bakery in the 1980s has grown into one of the last authentic Chinese-Vietnamese bakeries in the Danforth East neighbourhood, serving generations of loyal customers.
Owner Pearl and her team bake everything from scratch, every day. From crispy baguettes for their famous banh mi to buttery egg tarts, pandan honeycomb cakes, and steamed buns, every item is handmade with care and sold at prices the community can afford. Pearl remembers her regulars by name and order, and that personal warmth is what keeps families coming back year after year.
In a city where food prices have soared, Tung Hing stands firm. A banh mi for $5. A pastry for a dollar. As one long-time customer put it: "I applaud the lady who owns and runs the shop for keeping her prices down, even through the pandemic and skyrocketing inflation."
